In my last post I ‘expanded’ the ‘classical,’ ‘dictionary’ doll definitions to include:
2. representations of children, animal or fantasy characters meant for play or collecting; in all sizes, and made from materials including cloth, plastics, wood, clays, found objects, paper etc.
Today I’d like to show a couple of examples of what I feel are genre-bending dolls, and why for the purpose of this blog I felt I needed a little broader definition.

This cloth Thomas the Tank Engine© by GUND™ is a pretty popular seller on my www.BooksandDolls.com site, primarily to boys (and that’s a subject that will get it’s own page or three), but is it a doll?
Or How about these Nice Mice? Filled with lavender, chamomile and flax seed, and marketed as children’s aromatherapy and microwaveable heating pads. But they sure look like dolls to me!
So, “If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck….”
